Produced by market leader KRIS, the new high quality NEK Matrix, is the result of extensive laboratory testing and customer trials. It utilises the great properties of vulcanised fibre and the resulting good abrasion and high wear resistance means that it is longer lasting. It offers high quality creasing and a superior base adhesive which adheres firmly to the cutting plate, yet can be removed without trace of the adhesive.
It also has "Fingerlift" adhesive paper system. Kris was the first manufacturer to introduce the system. It enables the matrix to be located quickly and accurately on the creasing rule and the "Fingerlift" protective adhesive paper is extremely easy to remove resulting in reduced make- ready time.
Kris NEK matrix is available in widths from 0.8mm up to 5.0mm and four different styles- Standard, off-center for forming a double crease or where the crease is located close to the cutting rule, mini for multiple crease applications.
The Creasing Process- General Principles
To obtain high quality die-cut boxes, keep the creasing matrix from slipping along the plate and apply lower pressure levels to the die-cutter it is essential to use the creasing rule and creasing matrix correctly.
The following should be taken into account:-
It is essential to know the thickness of the board to be used before making dies.
The creasing rule height has to be selected according to the board height, as specified by the following formula:
Cutting rule height mm 23.30
Board thickness mm 0.40 (measured)
Creasing matrix base mm 0.10
Creasing Rule Height mm 22.75
Always use creasing rule which is the exact height required (from the above calculation) or slightly smaller. Never use a higher creasing rule.
To obtain deeper bending , you should not raise the creasing rule height, but rather raise the height of the creasing matrix shoulders.
Creasing Matrix Shoulders
Creasing matrix come with a wide range of shoulders for each size.
KRIS recommend that you use shoulders having the same thickness of the board to be cut, except for low-cellulose or recycled boards for which you will have to select the most appropriate shoulders. Higher shoulders may also be used for high quality boards.
Channel Width
1.5 to
2.0 times the thickness of the board plus the creasing rule thickness.
